Obituary for Evelyn Gwendola Ezell

A graveside service for Evelyn Gwendola Bolton Ezell, 96 of Maydelle, will be held on Saturday July 25, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Maydelle with Bro. James Blaylock officiating. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Evelyn passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020. She was born October 25, 1923 in Maydelle to the late James Lester and Minnie Ann Rainey Bolton.
She married her high school sweetheart, Rex Suggs Ezell, in 1944. They raised one child, a son. While Rex was serving in the Marine Corp Evelyn worked as a Rosie Riveter for Vought Air Craft Co. in Ft. Worth. Later while Rex was employed with H.C. Price Pipeline Co. they had the opportunity to travel throughout the states. Upon Rex’s tragic accidental death in 1966, she returned to Maydelle. In 1971, she and her son formed S.O. Ezell Ford Tractor Company. They were in business 49 years.
Evelyn is a member and past officer of U.D.C., DAR and Cherokee Co. Historical Comm. She enjoyed historical and genealogy research, but found the most satisfaction in taking care of her beloved tractor business and the family farm.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Rex; and brother, Lennon Bolton of Houston.
She is survived by her loving family including son, Shannon Owen Ezell and wife Sue of Jacksonville; grandsons, James Scott Ezell and wife Joan of Houston and Rex Shawn Ezell of Austin; great-grandsons, Everett Clark Ezell of College Station and Dalton Owen Ezell of Houston; and a very special and dear friend, Philip Nicks of Austin.
If desired, memorials in honor of Evelyn may be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association, 2297 F.M. 747 S., Rusk, TX 75785.
