Obituary for Maxine Quida Goodson Caveness

Maxine Quida Goodson Caveness, 94, of Jacksonville, TX, went to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family at home Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Maxine was born August 30, 1925, to Curtis and Lois Goodson.
She was an active member in the First Baptist Church and the last few years at Cornerstone Baptist Church. She loved her church family.
She married the love of her life, J.L. “Cotton” Caveness on August 22, 1944. They lived the first part of their married life in Jacksonville. During this time, on January 2, 1947, Jimmy was born. They then moved to Houston where Cotton was a member of the police force. On October 29, 1950, Mary was added to the family unit. Three years later they moved back to Jacksonville and on August 26, 1958 Terry was born which completed their family.
Maxine was a stay-at-home mom until Terry started school. She worked for Eastside Elementary School in the cafeteria. Later she worked for the dress factory, purse factory and finally at Beall’s in the credit department. She retired from there to take care of her mom along with two aunts and an uncle.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Lois Goodson; her husband, J.L. “Cotton” Caveness; a son, Terry Bolin Caveness and two grandsons, Jamie and Eric Caveness.
She is survived by two children, Jimmy Caveness and wife Linda of Jacksonville and Mary Howe and husband Wayne of Chickasha, OK. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Krista Morgan and husband John, Jeremy Howe and wife Renee, Lacey Brantley and husband Bruce, Wes Caveness and wife Kim, Clay Caveness and wife Lindsay, Greg Caveness and wife Patricia, Justin Caveness and wife Laura, Jana Emerson, Shelly Gaines and Kristi Ender and husband Brad; 30 great- grandchildren, 17 great great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Sharon Shipley; and special friends, Margaret Tankersley and Bonnie O’Dell.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Jacksonville. A viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Jeremy Howe, Justin Caveness, Wes Caveness, Clay Caveness, Gregg Caveness, Chance Caveness, Trey Caveness and Jimmy Caveness. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandsons Brennan Morgan, Hudson Morgan, Carson Howe, Jacob Caveness, Trevor Caveness, Chance Emerson, Chase Emerson, Cade Emerson, Christian Gentle, Niklis Gentle, Mikey Lloyd and Cody Birdwell.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. James Low, Patty and staff. The family would also like to thank Hospice of East Texas, especially Laura and Pam.
Rather than customary condolences, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church or Hospice of East Texas 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
